Build a Top-Performing Board
It was taking about a year for new board members to really become productive. After using the material in Nonprofit-KnowHow, particularly the Board Development chapter's materials on board orientation, our board members are now productive at their first meeting! They take on tasks and committee assignments willingly, serve in leadership positions effectively, and actually enjoy the board more! Nonprofit-KnowHow's explanation of basic principles, coupled with excellent templates, made the turn-around far easier than we expected. - D.H. Kansas City, MO
"I found Nonprofit-KnowHow to give essential background information for those new to the nonprofit sector as well as deeper, probing knowledge in areas necessary for experienced leaders in the sector. It's clearly and effectively organized for easy use, with helpful annotations and headings. The Workbook is a perfect supplement with handouts and definitions for a board, nonprofit employees or funders. If I have a question about a term or policy or need a method of approach, I will continually turn to Nonprofit KnowHow for answers and guidance." - K Rutledge, Editor, CausePlanet
More Donations from an Annual Fund
Our organization of more than 30 years had never had an annual fund. After reading Nonprofit-KnowHow, we saw how much more efficient and effective our fundraising would be if we created an exciting and consistent program for donors. We used the example in the workbook, combined with the clear explanations in the guide, and in our first year increased contributed income from individuals by more than 60%! - W.N. Knoxville, TN
Easy Capital Campaign Success
We used Nonprofit-KnowHow chapters on Asking for Money and Capital Campaigns to prepare for raising $1.5 million. For us, this was a substantial sum that most of us didn't think possible. But with the common sense guidance, tips, and workbook materials provided in Nonprofit-KnowHow, we were able to do the campaign ourselves and in much less time than was originally anticipated, saving us money both in staff time and builder dollars.

Our Board Didn't Give or Get
It was a huge problem that felt insurmountable, but Nonprofit-KnowHow gave us the tools we needed to make the change.
First, we gave board members the chapter on nonprofit boards that explains the board's role as an advocate and owner of the organization. At a board meeting, we talked about the chapter and reviewed the sample board giving policy from The Workbook. At another meeting, we did the exercise on finding the appropriate giving level for our board. After that, the board felt comfortable passing their own giving policy.
We now use the board annual pledge form so each board member agrees not only to give, but when the gift will be given. It took us a year to work through the process, but it's paid huge returns: the board gives at 100%, which has resulted in two foundation grants that we hadn't been able to get. It's also created an ambassador culture on the board, with the board's contacts beginning to give as well. - M.B. Dallas, TX
Our Profitable Conference
People told us that conferences always lose money in their first year. Nonprofit-KnowHow gave us the understanding of essential fundraising principles and ideas about attracting business and corporate support, from which we developed a corporate sponsorship program. As a result, our educational conference was profitable in its first year! - K.D. Fort Collins, CO
